Focus
The creation of positive psychology curriculum that teachers can use to help their students feel less stressed and more positive/happy during the language learning process.
Methodology
Three units were created: PERMA, character strengths, and mindfulness. Within these units, the positive psychology research team created 10-15 lesson plans for learners ranging in proficiency from novice high to advanced. Over the course of a year, these lessons were taught at the ELC (one unit per semester), and instructors provided feedback that the researchers then integrated into their lesson plans.
Results
An online textbook with all the positive psychology ESL lessons that is freely available on EdTech Books.
Importance
Students need help managing their stress in an SLA environment, and teachers need the resources to help them. Thus, this textbook focuses on managing that stress while continuing to develop a student’s language abilities.
